The Sensible Party is the new force in British Politics. We in the Sensible Party feel that over the past 30 years, the namby-pamby posturing of the three main parties has eroded one of the great pillars of British Society.

Common Sense.

We're putting it back. Sensible policies for a sensible Britain. We believe in getting problems sorted, not in pandering to the foibles of this pressure group or that campaign. We will not stand for dilly-dallying. We will not stand for shilly-shallying. We will take firm and direct action. We will make Britain a country you can be proud of. We will make Great Britain great once more.

Youth Control Act (Education)

There has been a decline in education standards over the past thirty years. One theory for this is the increase of the incidence of attention deficit disorder (ADD) among the youth population. A far more feasible (we are the Sensible Party after all) theory is that children are suffering from a lack of focus rather than a medical condition.

Rather than adding Ritalin to all school meals (with all of the budgetary implications), a better approach would be to persuade pupils to pay more attention at school by natural organic methods. Historically this is achieved by the threat of punishment; there is a major flaw in this strategy.

Disruptive children do not want to go to school. In order to persuade these children to behave, the educational establishments threaten greater punishments, ending in exclusion. To reiterate this, the children do not wish to attend, and if they are disruptive, the system allows them to do just that. Under the Sensible Party common sense guidlines, this seems wrong. Surely this is a reward and not a punishment?

Mother Nature has given all species a natural learning capability. In nature, when learning the difference between right and wrong, pain plays a huge part. In the wild, animals stay well clear of hornets, lions, and poisonous plants, all without biology lessons. Just imagine what we could achieve if we combined this invaluable stimulus with our education systems.

It is proposed to remove the reward of not having to attend school. This will be replaced with the controlled application of neuro-stimulo-control (NSC), using a variety of applicators. These applicators will be made of various materials such as bamboo or wood, and can be used manually. In the case of establishments where large amounts of NSC are being dispensed, automatic electrical applicators will be made available to reduce the likelihood of RSI.

It is the belief of the Sensible Party that, by implementing this Act, the youth of our time would focus more at school, which would result in a better qualified society of tomorrow.

Unemployment Benefit Reform

It is unfortunate that any one of us, through no fault of our own, can find ourselves out of work and having to rely on the welfare state. Whilst we are in work however, we fund the welfare state. Our taxes can be looked on as a kind of insurance.
There is however an underclass of people who have no intention of ever finding work, who expect the state to provide for them whilst never putting anything back. These people are cheating the system. These people support their lazy, lounge lizard lifestyles by stealing taxes from those who work hard for a living.

The professionally unemployed are nothing more than common thieves and we will not tolerate them.

Under our policy new powers will be given to benefit officers to identify the professionally unemployed and issue them with training orders. Failure to attend a course, failure to pass a course or failure to find work after the course will result in conscription into the army for a period of not less than three years.

The advantages of conscription are clear, not only is it an effective deterrent, it is also considerable cheaper than keeping someone on benefits, allowing your taxes to be spent on improving the services you use.

Prison Population Policy

Today's prisons are overcrowded and the people who reside in them do so without giving anything back to our land. Our policy will see these people put to good use. Prisoners will spend shifts in human sized hamster wheels that are attached to generators, thus supplying power to the nearby community.
The amount of time that is spent in the wheel is to be calculated by taking the length of their sentence in hours and dividing it by fifteen, once the inmate has produced this number of kilowatt hours of electricity, he or she will be released.
This scheme will have multiple benefits. In addition to supplying part of the country's power needs it will keep the inmates fit, provide incentive not to re-offend and instill the core value that hard work pays off.

Teenage Pregnancies

We at the sensible party believe in tackling the root cause of problems.

The Problem: The number of teenage pregnancies, and indeed in unplanned, unwanted or ill-prepared for births put a great strain on our country's social service and benefit systems.

Our Solution: We propose the compulsory fitting of sub dermal hormonal birth control devices to all school children 12 years of age, which can be removed upon the completion of a certificate in parenting skills and the gaining of at least one recognised educational qualification.

This simple action will eliminate all teenage pregnancies, and ensure all new parents have the necessary skills to cope with their responsibilities.
